The Republic of Angola has defended the holding of an extraordinary summit of the African Union on terrorism, proposed by the Commission of the continental organization, to analyze the impact of this phenomenon in Africa.

Angola’s move was presented during the 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on behalf of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

In his speech, the head of Angolan diplomacy said that the AU´s extraordinary summit on terrorism would also serve to outline strategies leading to a comprehensive plan of action.

Before several Heads of State and Government of the African continent, Téte António said that Angola supports the suggestion of the AU Commission to hold a summit on terrorism in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, next May.

According to the Angolan minister, in the event of happening in May, the extraordinary summit would take place after the AU Humanitarian Summit and the Donors Conference, which would allow the organization of the two events, which he considered strategic, in the first half of 2022.

During the event in Ethiopia´s capital, Angola expressed concern and condemned the growing number of unconstitutional regime changes in Africa using military force and demanded stronger measures from the international community to discourage such actions and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Alongside the AU summit in Addis Abeba,

The head of Angolan diplomacy, Téte António held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina Jane Mohammed, with whom he addressed issues related to peace and security on the continent.

The two entities also analyzed matters related to economy and development, at multilateral level.

The Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the Ethiopian capital, Téte António also met with the CEO of the local Airlines Company, Esayas Woldmar.

The two analysed issues linked to the need for strengthening the existing cooperation between the airlines companies of Angola and Ethiopia, as confirmed here by Mr. Esayas Woldmar himself.
